Important People 2 - Arthur Phillip and Watkin Tench

Captain Arthur Phillip led the First Fleet to Australia and established the colony as its first Governor. He faced the difficult first years and tried to establish good relations with the Aboriginal people with only mixed success. He was generally successful in moving the colony toward sustainability before returning to England in 1792.
