The first site we visit on the Stage 3 Excursion is the complex of buildings and cemetery at the Uniting Church. It sits at the end of Old Castlereagh Road, at the western end of the Regatta Centre.
The site was part of the 1803 land grant given to John Lees, an ex-soldier of the "Rum Corps". He devoted an acre of his land for the building of the original church in 1817. The current stone chapel replaced it in 1847.

Also at the site is the old school hall that is used for church and community meetings.

Near the hall is the grave of John Lees, after it was moved from the Anglican cemetery at Church Street.
Across the road is the Upper Castlereagh School and residence built in 1878.
